2009 - Flash Animation

Bunnippon

Lucky you, this is some of my earliest work. Ever. — Anyways, back in 2009 I took an intro course to Adobe Flash. While the focus of that class was just to learn basic interaction principles and what not, I got a little carried away. The result was an illustrated fictional narrative inspired by my year abroad studying in Tokyo, Japan.

Meet the Cast

I hand-drew an assorted collection of characters inspired by my Tokyo experiences and stylized them in Adobe illustrator.

The Japanese Salary Man (pronounced Sa-ra-ree-Man).

The Shibuya and Yoyogi types

The main character of the animation is a Bunny. Spoiler alert: The bunny turns into a Japanese boy in a Bunny Costume ( you can say it was sort of an assimilation story).

Let’s set the scene…

Its 2006, a little bunny falls down a hole that turns out to be the massive Tokyo Metro. And the poor bunny has never been on a subway before, much less one in Tokyo, Japan.

At the time I couldn’t figure out how to change the background color. This was back when online tutorials in Adobe were not that available.

Scenes from the animated short featuring the crowded subway cars and encounters with various Tokyo subcultures.
